Any cost cutting tips for the group?

  • I watched ’Whose Wedding Is It Anyway’ the other day, and they had a wedding planner who cut the cake costs so dramatically - a few friends got together and baked 100 plain cupcakes, frosted them with vanilla icing, and then on the day, the wedding planner decorate them with fresh flowers (she ripped up a small bunch of flowers to decorate). It looked gorgeous and was so much cheaper than paying for a cake baker! I’m going to look into it for sure.

  • Thanks Camilla! It sounds like we’re having similar experiences with florist pricing! I got quoted $150 but the florist kept saying ”that’s really the size we use for bridesmaids, Not brides.” I agree, it just seems so expensive! I definitely love flowers and you’re right, stress right around the wedding would not be good…

Maybe the thing to do is go to Trader Joes or Costco and try to do a bouquet mock-up. I’ll post any findings here.

  • I think it depends how simple you want to go? If you plan to have, say, six long-stem roses, you can easily tie them together with a single bow and go with that. If you want a complex or dense posie arrangement, it might be a little difficult to pull together (and you don’t want that much extra stress on your big day!)

So far my cheapest quote has been $80 for each of my 5 bridesmaids, and $180 for my flowers!! I think that seems insane, but my friends say that’s reasonable? $180 is more than I would normally spend on an entire outfit, yet I’m going to spend that amount on some flowers that will be dead 12 hours later! Yikes…

  • I’m thinking about trying to make my bouquet. It…it doesn’t seem that hard. Famous last words?

Has anyone done this? Any tips?
